4.1. Option A: Co-creation of interventions by stakeholders

This option involves a co-creation focus group with national, regional, and/ or local stakeholders to identify interventions in a collaborative session. The co-creation session should focus on active participation, creativity, and a sense of shared ownership to identify and analyse their potential to contribute to solving WEFe Nexus challenges.

Why co-create interventions?

  1. Allows members of a community to interact on an equal footing, encouraging the participation of all stakeholders without leaving anyone on the outside
  2. Opens a space for dialogue, where ideas are debated and the best alternative for local development is determined by consensus;
  3. It is a learning community: people learn from each other and vice versa, allowing them to understand the dynamics of local development;
  4. Provides relevant information on the local situation, which will be used for present and future evaluations;
  5. Respects local knowledge as a starting point: affirming the group's identity with its culture, traditions, and landscape;
  6. Favours the democratisation of decision-making;
  7. It is used as a tool for disseminating information to the community members involved;
  8. It helps to create appropriate, effective, and efficient policies;
  9. Allows the use of its own resources in the solution of priority problems affecting the population.

Who should be invited to participate in the co-creation process?
The same participants from the Participatory System Mapping workshop (Section 2.4) can join the focus group, but in smaller numbers. These should include key sector and stakeholder representatives directly influencing or impacted by the WEFe nexus. For details on the stakeholders and their inclusion rationale, refer to Section 2.4.

How to run a co-creation intervention exercise by stakeholders?
The “Script for Co-creation of Interventions by Stakeholders” outlines a suggested format for this exercise within the WEFe 2.0 framework. The goal is to define interventions that address the problems identified in the Causal Loop Diagram (CLD). This exercise will take about 1 hour and ideally should be organized in an in-person focus group with stakeholders, but an online focus group could work too. The exercise should be done after the post-production of the CLD has been finalised.
